Stream of consciousness

As I sit on the couch enjoying a glass of bubbly, I can't help but reflect on the events leading up to tonight. We leave in the morning for Regionals, and I am beyond proud of my awesome Handsome Hub. The man has busted his tail over the last year. No question there - he totally deserves every moment of this. As he gets more in his zone for 3 days of intense competition, I get more relaxed. He's got this. I know my role is support - getting him what he needs, getting him to the right place at the right time, and being there as a sounding board - everything I've always done as 'Coach Wiff'. And I love my role in this place. We have our routine and things are ready. The car is just about packed and we're off to San Antonio first thing. Check my Facebook and twitter for updates - I'm sure I'll be wearing them out this weekend! I can't help but look back at where the last year has led us. This time last year, we were headed off to Napa for a fabulous long weekend. So much has changed in our lives since then. Different friends, different routine, different everything. It's kind of crazy. We'll see how that circles back later, I'm sure. Ach. Enough of the heavy stuff now. Off to San Antonio! Send love and good vibes to HH, if you please! ;-)

It's another brag...

I know, I know, I need to stop it.  But I can't seem to help this!  I'm beyond proud of HH right now! So, you all know that Crossfit has taken over our lives.  This is not new or exciting.  The fact that that the Open is over now?  Mucho exciting (especially for a certain girl who entered under duress!).  The fact that HH finished SECOND in our region?  Super awesome!

Even cooler?  Go read this article.  Go ahead, I'll wait.  Ok, you're back now?  HOW FREAKIN' COOL WAS THAT?!?!?!  I know.  Now you see why I can't contain myself!

#10...

...IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

Not gonna lie - I'm beyond super proud of HH right now!  I told you that the Crossfit Open has taken over our lives - and I wasn't lying at all.  But I gotta brag a little bit - he's tied for 10th in the world on the 2nd workout!  Seriously - how stoked was I to pull up the MAIN scoreboard and see his name?!  Yup - beyond. I even took a picture of it.  (yeah, iphone + computer screen = maybe not perfect pic)

The second workout was kind of really technical - 10 minutes of snatch, which is one of the most technical of the Olympic lifts.  It was a progression in sets of 30 - going from light weight to BIG KID weight.  HH rocked it out and is now sitting 3rd in our region!!!  Here's the South Central scoreboard.  AND he even made this week's recap!  Yay!

February Favorites!

It's the last day of February... and wow - it's been a mad month!  A happy one, but a mad busy one!  What has the W Fam been up to?  There's a major trend of fitness in our month - go figure!

Crossfit Open - Well, the Open started anyway.  The Crossfit Open starts the road the the Crossfit Games.  It's a worldwide, 5 week long competition - one wod per week.  We all do this at a gym, and then submit scores online - and then the top 60 form each region go to Regionals, which are the last step pre-games.  HH's big goal is Regionals this year, and I think he'll have no problem making that!  The wods can be anything - last week for the first one, we spent 7 minutes doing burpees.  Ouch.  I'm doing the Open just to do it - and support HH and Bolt's team.  Send good vibes for us over the next 4 weeks, please!

West Plano Crossfit Cupid's Challenge - We all know I'm not a competitor.  HH?  Yes.  All day long.  And he's awesome at it.  We put together 2 teams to head to Plano last Saturday to do a team crossfit competition - and it was so fun!  HH and Matt were great coaches, Robyn and Sandra were awesome cheerleaders / team moms, and our teams were amazing!  We did 3 wods - they were hard!  It was a fun and challenging day, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  It did mean that HH and I totally swapped normal roles - and that was a challenge and an educational experience in itself!  I'm normally the crossfit mama when he competes; I don't want him to have to worry about anything other that what he's got to do in each wod.  It means a long day for both of us - him physically, and me mentally and emotionally.  The swap was cool - and I think gave us both some new perspective.

30 Day Paleo Challenge - I did a 30 (well, 31) day Paleo Challenge with our friends over at Bolt.  We eat pretty clean in the W Fam anyway, but this added an extra edge to the month - no grain, dairy, or sugar - real or otherwise!  I went ahead and cut out dark chocolate and wine too - ouch!  It was a great month long challenge, and I really learned how much better I do when we plan out what we're eating for the week.  The wheels tend to fall off when we fly by the seat of our pants.  I made it through the month with 0 cheats and am so ready to eat something not Challenge-worthy tomorrow!  No clue what it'll be yet, but something delicious!  I'm so proud of all of the friends that did this together.  We kept each other on it and honest - so helpful!

Valentine's Day - cheesy? Yes.  But you gotta love a day devoted to cards and candy.  I missed out a bit on the candy part this year due to the Challenge, but didn't actually miss any of it!  HH gave me a pair of Nike Romaleo weightlifting shoes - and they're totally awesome!!!  We tend to go low-key for holidays, but these are amazing.  And I'm totally spoiled.  I think it's a sweet 'holiday' that is playful and fun.

Dallas' Fab Weather! - a year ago, we had 2 huge ice storms and school cancelled and all of the mess that goes with that!  This year?  It's been like spring most if the month - and we LOVE it!!!  I'll take this kind of winter any day - it's been gorgeous!

What are some of your favorites?

Relevance

Something more than a little relevant in my life right now... It's not a bad thing at all, just something to keep calm and laugh through.

As my fab friend Keri says: "It'll be ok in the end.  If it's not ok, it's not the end."  That woman is a genius!

Carry on, friends!  Be happy!

What the heck?!

The other day, my friend Chris went on a rant at his blog after hearing some shocking news.  No, it wasn't news of war, or death, or happy news, but something in the fashion industry that set him off.  What?!  The fashion industry?  Apparently, the fashion industry (no, I don't have a clue WHO specifically) declared that women over a size 6 are PLUS-SIZE.  Seriously.  Read the post here.  And in case that wasn't enough, check out the story from an editorial.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah.  My thoughts exactly.  So, did you know that most models - the ones who (some, many, a LOT of) women look up to and attempt to look like - meet the criteria for anorexic body types.  Ouch.  I don't know about you, but I can't say that I would like to fall into that category.  Not that I particularly enjoy being labeled as plus-size, either, but still.  More on that to come, I'm sure.

Because he's a rockstar, Chris followed up on his blog post this past weekend at The Fittest Games in Austin with a video.  I think it speaks for itself:

So.  Important stuff.  What are you going to do to shift the paradigm?

Judgement

I feel like the topic of judgment has come up a gazillion times this week already.

Take, for example, this picture:

The Rolling Stones.  Cool guys, right?  In a lecture, the lecturer stated "I'm about the age now that these guys were when this was taken... and I surely don't look that bad"  Wow.  Holy Judgey Batman.  I wanted to ask him if he had half as much fun as these guys over the course of his life.  But, then I would have been judging.  And I'm trying to leave it up to the experts.  Whoever they happen to be.

What's that old proverb-y saying?  Oh, yeah, live and let live.  Be happy.  Be well.  Be open to different possibilities and different people.  Enjoy life. Don't be a Judgy MacJudgerson.

You know you Ninja around your house too!  ;-)

Mainstreaming

So, the sport of Crossfit has kind of taken over life in the W fam... this isn't really new, but it seems it's going mainstream!  Check out this Reebok ad from last weekend:

While there are mixed emotions (about the ad, about Reebok, about the 'sport of fitness') in our house, it's kind of cool to see something we've been busting our tails at for a couple of years out there!

Maybe it's time for a home gym tour...  ;-)
